This is Trailflat Church in deepest Dumfriesshire, Scotland. Had a great cycle and adventure to find it. You have to go through a farmyard to reach the Kirk, thankfully the farmer was there and said it was ok for me to visit, once he’d rounded up some stray sheep! Worth the trouble though.
The church fell out of use in 1650, would you believe, and was described as ruinous in 1687.

What a fascinating place, Derek. How did you hear about it?

Hi Mary. I was planning a wee ride on my e-bike around the Shieldhill area near me. I saw it on the map, Like you, Ive never heard of it so decided to have a look. Looked it up on the Canmore site, couldn’t believe how old it was. Always been fascinated with old kirks etc and have visited a good few. Very isolated site, the parish was amalgamated with Tinwald in 1650. was a wee bit eerie Ive got to say!

You’ve captured that eerieness in the photos, especially the second one with the grave stones.
