Tinwald Kirk
This kirk was built in the 1780s on the site of a medieval predecessor. The north side has the burial enclosure of the Charteris family of Amisfield. The kirkyard is a Commonwealth Grave site.
There is also an interesting covenanter tombstone to one John Corbet who, unusually, died of natural causes in 1706 aged 65. Unusual in that he was captured by the troops of the notorious Claverhouse in 1684 but was not executed . He was, instead, “banished by the wicked counsell of Scotland” to East Jersey in North America. He returned home in 1687.
There is a wonderful story from the “Glorious Revolution” of 1688 in which “the minister , when entering his pupit, was assailed by women who tore his coat and shirt off and would have done the same with his breeches, had he not pleaded with them from their modesty…….”
Tinwald is also the site of a famous UFO incident in 2007!!

Never been to Senwick, but I will soon. As to the UFO, a lady Tinwald resident was returning home when she noticed something. She stopped at the Tinwald Manse entrance when she says a “blue cylinder with lights” stopped and hovered above her car before speeding off! She went apeshit not surprisingly, police were involved seemingly. Friend of mine knows her, she still swears by it. The truth is out there! 😱👽
