Waterfall

Waterfall

I was just standing,
watching a waterfall,
when I saw the earth
flow between the rocks,
and spread itself
below my feet, heard
the hiss at the edge
of white water and lake.

I felt the air shift,
that soft rush on skin,
that half formed tear,
and I saw my shadow
formed on the water,
marking my presence,
claiming my space.

It was only, a moment.
It was just long enough
to take a photograph,
yet it stretched, somehow,
enough to see, hear, feel.

Then the world took hold,
Brought me home again.

By photos, poetry and haiku by Derek Ross

I am a photographer/ poet from Dumfries in South West Scotland. I concentrate on minimalist images and prefer using an iPhone these days. As far as my writing is concerned, I usually write short poems (some in Scots dialect), hence my interest in haiku and related forms.
