We are strolling along These narrow back lanes, There are no crowds here, No open topped buses, No horse and carriage, No neat waving waiters, Beckoning us to enter Their canopied cafes.
Here, there are only echoes Of feet on cobbled streets, And the marks of past times Etched on rough stone walls. So much has passed down These hidden roads, We notice the traces, Because we take the time.
Soon, we’ll join the crowds, Become part of it all, But, we’ll be contend To have strayed for a while. We’ll buy two Belgian beers, Settle on rocky cafe chairs, And chat as minutes fall From the clock on Market Square.
